From both sides of the passage extends the Great Wall, zigzagging up and down the mountains. The section at Badaling is one of the best Great Wall architectures combining sublime, precipitous, gentle and beautiful parts. Magnificant, the wall stretches and winds through the mountains towards the north and south before fading out at the end of your view. The highest watchtower(North Eight Watchtower) is 888 meters above sea level. The open section is 3741 meters with 16 watchtowers in total. It is surrounded by mountains covered with dense vegetations. In the center is a small open basin with an area of 40 square kilometers. Rivers and streams converge in the center of the basin and wind towards the east. Each tomb was built with a hill behind and rivers before. The geographical environment is spectacular, quiet and secluded.
By observing the dragon spine, main mountain and massifs, guard hills, grave, mountains near and far from the grave, rivers, open spaces in front of the tomb, and tomb direction, you can learn about Chinese Fengshui culture and the impact of Fengshui on our real life.
On the way you can also see the Jingzhang railway, the first railway built by Chinese with their own money and engineers. It once greatly enhanced the ambition of Chinese people, hence was recorded in history.
